After a 20-year dream, the doors opened just in time for the 2014 Memorial Day Weekend, and Captain Mac’s Fish House quickly became a local sensation. After the 2013 season, with a little push from Hurricane Sandy, the McGuigans tore down the old tackle shop and began anew. With his “simple is better” mindset, Bruce began planning his next move. Having spent much of his life fishing in small towns all over the map, Bruce noticed a correlation between fresh fish and good food. Specializing in freshly caught fish, local stone crab claws, and steamed-to-order Maryland blue crabs, Bruce began the transition from catching to cooking. In 2012, Bruce and his family chose to grow their passion for fresh, local seafood and opened Lone Mullet Seafood Market next door. In 1983, Bruce and his father, Charles “Mac” McGuigan opened Captain Mac’s Bait & Tackle and for more than three decades, they provided Fenwick Island with professional equipment and expert advice. In a town of celebrity chefs and multi-million dollar dining rooms, where restaurants come and go, often in the span of months, Captain’s Tavern has thrived by staying true to its original mission of offering the freshest seafood and great wine in a warm, friendly atmosphere.Bruce McGuigan grew up near the water, spending his time fishing recreationally and commercially from Fenwick Island to the Florida Keys to Baja. Almost all of the fish comes in whole and is filleted on the premises.
